Chest Press and Shoulder Machines

Two selectorized upper-body machines from Sports & Fitness Exchange, both $2,499: the Selectorized Chest and Shoulder Press, a seated press with a 200 lb stack, an adjustable starting position and a 1,000 lb supplier rating, and the Standing Multi-Flight Shoulder Raise, a standing machine with a 250 lb stack at a 2:1 ratio, swiveling arms with 25 angle settings and 15 heights for lateral, front and bent-over raises, chest flies and pullovers. It is a short list, so the guide also points to the pec fly, lateral raise and bench press stations from the same line, explains machine press vs bench press, and covers setup and what to compare. Commercial-grade steel, sold new, 1-year warranty. Free freight to domestic USA addresses in the lower 48.

The two machines

Seated press and standing shoulder raise

Selectorized Chest and Shoulder Press, $2,499

A seated pressing machine: you sit against a back pad, take the handles at chest height and press forward against a 200 lb pin-select stack, with the shoulders and triceps working alongside the chest. An adjustable starting position sets the range of motion for different users, and the supplier rates the frame at 1,000 lb. Built for home gyms, studios, apartment and HOA fitness rooms, schools and commercial floors. The listing does not state a cable ratio or whether the arms convert to an overhead shoulder press path; ask us before you order if you need the overhead press. One unit in stock; after that it is on backorder.

Standing Multi-Flight Shoulder Raise, $2,499

A standing selectorized machine with two rotating cams driving swiveling arms that move forward, back, left and right. A 250 lb stack at a 2:1 ratio, so the load at the handles is about half the pinned weight. The arms set to 25 circular angles and the carriage slides through 15 hydraulic-assisted heights. Movements: standing lateral raise, bent-over lateral raise with the head support pad, unilateral front raise, chest fly, and unilateral pulldown or pullover using the dial stops. One arm or both. 29.13 by 44.88 by 76.77 inches, 254 lb plus the stack, 1.97 by 3.94 inch steel tube. One unit in stock; after that it is on backorder.

Pec deck, lateral raise and bench press stations

Chest and shoulder work on this site is spread across a few more SFE machines that are listed with our strength training machines:

  • Pec deck, $2,499. The Pec Fly and Rear Delt Fly Pec Deck: pec fly and rear delt fly on one seat, 250 lb stack at a 1:1 ratio, sealed-bearing pulleys, magnetic selector pin. In stock.
  • Lateral raise, $1,999. The Lateral Raise Delt Selectorized: seated lateral raise, 250 lb stack at 1:1, 11-gauge steel, adjustable seat. Currently sold out; email us to reserve.
  • Plate Loaded Olympic Bench Press ($796) and Plate Loaded Decline Bench Press ($765). Bench press stations for a free Olympic bar, on our squat racks and benches page. Both currently sold out.

For cable presses and flies from any angle, see the dual-stack functional trainers.

Machine press vs bench press

What a chest press machine changes

A bench press puts a free bar or dumbbells in your hands and leaves the path, the balance and the safety setup to you. A chest press machine fixes the path, puts the load on a pin, and lets you stop at any point without a spotter or safety bars. Changing weight takes seconds, and a new user can read the stack and go.

That is why most strength floors keep both. The bench press, with a rack and a bench, handles heavy free-bar loading; the machine handles the sets where you want the path fixed: training alone, high-rep work, circuits, or a shared room where users change over every few minutes. A standing shoulder raise machine does the same for raises and flies, where the cam and the swivel arms keep the resistance on through the full arc.

What to compare and how to set up

Stack, ratio, adjustments, footprint

  • Stack and ratio. 200 lb on the chest press, ratio not published; 250 lb at 2:1 on the shoulder raise, about 125 lb at the handles. A 1:1 machine (the pec deck and lateral raise) delivers the pinned weight at the handle.
  • Adjustments. Starting position on the chest press; 25 arm angles and 15 heights on the shoulder raise. These set the fit for users of different heights.
  • Setup. Set the seat or carriage so the handles line up at mid-chest for a press, or the pivot lines up with the shoulder for a raise; set the starting position so the first rep starts with the stack just lifted; then pick the pin.
  • Footprint. 29 by 45 inches and 77 inches tall for the shoulder raise. The chest press footprint is not published; ask us for it before ordering for a tight room. Allow a clear strip beside each stack for the pin.
  • Frame and warranty. Commercial-grade steel; 1-year warranty on both.

Stock on these machines moves; a listing marked in stock ships within about 3 business days, a listing you can add to cart without an in-stock badge is on backorder from the supplier (ask us for the current lead time before you order), and a sold-out listing can be reserved by email.

Both ship by freight on a pallet, partly assembled, and need two people and basic tools to finish. Ask us about inside delivery and assembly.

FAQs

Is the chest press machine actually good?

It is a fixed-path press with a pin-select stack: quick to set up, easy to stop at any point, and usable without a spotter. It does not replace a free-bar bench press, which lets the bar move in your own path; most floors keep both.

How to properly set up a chest press machine?

Set the seat so the handles sit at mid-chest, set the starting position so the stack is just lifted at the first rep, sit with your back against the pad, then choose the pin. On the SFE press the starting position is adjustable.

Is a chest press machine equal to a bench?

Not equal, different. The machine fixes the path and the safety; the bench press asks you to balance the bar and needs a rack and safety bars or a spotter. The movement pattern is similar.

Do you sell a shoulder press machine?

The Selectorized Chest and Shoulder Press is our seated press; the listing describes a forward press with the shoulders assisting, so ask us whether it converts to an overhead press path. For raises and flies, the Standing Multi-Flight Shoulder Raise covers lateral, front and bent-over raises.

What does a 2:1 ratio mean on the shoulder raise?

The load at the handles is about half the weight on the pin, so the 250 lb stack gives about 125 lb at the handles in finer steps. On a 1:1 machine the pin number is the handle load.

Do you have a pec deck machine?

Yes, the SFE Pec Fly and Rear Delt Fly Pec Deck ($2,499, 250 lb stack at 1:1, in stock), listed with our strength training machines.

Which of these are in stock?

One of each chest press and shoulder raise unit is in stock; after that they go to backorder. Stock on these machines moves; a listing marked in stock ships within about 3 business days, a listing you can add to cart without an in-stock badge is on backorder from the supplier (ask us for the current lead time before you order), and a sold-out listing can be reserved by email.
