The two machines

Seated combo vs seated extension with prone curl

Seated Leg Extension and Leg Curl, $2,499

One seat does both: the roller pad swings up for the leg extension (quads) and you switch to a seated hamstring curl, pulling the roller down and back. 9 start angles, 5 roller positions and 8 thigh-pad positions with laser-engraved markers, so a shared machine resets to each user's numbers. Fits users from 4 ft 10 in to 6 ft 10 in. 250 lb stack at a 1:1 ratio. In stock.

Leg Extension and Prone Leg Curl Combo, $2,499

Seated leg extension on the front, and a lying (prone) leg curl on a padded bench behind, so the two movements use two positions on one frame. 9 start angles and 5 foot-roller positions, sealed-bearing pulleys, 11-gauge ASTM A36 powder-coated steel, 65 by 39 by 56 inches. 250 lb stack at a 1:1 ratio. In stock.

Seated vs prone curl

Which leg curl position to buy

A seated curl keeps the hip flexed, which puts the hamstring under a longer stretch at the start of the rep; a prone curl has you lying face down with the hip extended. Lifters tend to have a preference, and many gyms keep both. For a home gym buying one machine, the seated combo is the faster switch between movements (one seat, one pad), while the prone combo gives you a true lying curl bench and a longer frame. Neither needs plates.

What to compare

Stack, ratio, adjustments, footprint

  • Stack and ratio. Both run 250 lb at a 1:1 ratio, so the number on the pin is the load at the pad.
  • Adjustments. Start angle sets where the lever begins (9 positions on both), roller position sets the pad on the shin (5 on both), and the seated combo adds 8 thigh-pad positions and a stated user height range.
  • Footprint. The prone combo is 65 by 39 by 56 inches; the seated combo's dimensions are not yet published, so ask us for a tight room. Leave room beside the stack for the pin.
  • Frame. 11-gauge ASTM A36 steel on the prone combo; the seated combo lists heavy-duty steel. Both carry a 1-year warranty.
  • Pulleys. Sealed bearings on the prone combo.

Choosing

Home gym, studio or facility

  • Home gym, one machine, several users: the Seated Leg Extension and Leg Curl, for the engraved positions and the height range.
  • Prone curl preferred, or a bench format wanted: the Leg Extension and Prone Leg Curl combo.
  • Studio or team room: either; both are selectorized and reset in seconds.
  • Full leg station: pair one with a leg press or hack squat and a hip thrust machine.

Stock on these machines moves; a listing marked in stock ships within about 3 business days, a listing you can add to cart without an in-stock badge is on backorder from the supplier (ask us for the current lead time before you order), and a sold-out listing can be reserved by email.

FAQs

Is a leg extension and leg curl combo as good as two machines?

For a home gym or a small studio, yes: both SFE combos run the same 250 lb stack and the same 1:1 ratio as a single-purpose machine, and the switch between movements takes a pad change. A busy commercial floor may still want two stations so two people can train at once.

Seated or prone leg curl?

Seated keeps the hip flexed for a longer hamstring stretch; prone has you lying down. Buy the one you prefer to train on; the seated combo is the quicker switch, the prone combo is a true lying curl.

Do I need weight plates?

No. Both machines are selectorized with a built-in 250 lb stack.

Will it fit a tall or short user?

The Seated Leg Extension and Leg Curl is rated for users from 4 ft 10 in to 6 ft 10 in, with 8 thigh-pad and 5 roller positions. The prone combo has 9 start angles and 5 roller positions; ask us about a specific height.

How much space does a leg extension machine need?

The prone combo is 65 by 39 inches and 56 inches tall. Allow a clear strip beside the weight stack. The seated combo's dimensions are available from our team.

Which of these are in stock?

Stock on these machines moves; a listing marked in stock ships within about 3 business days, a listing you can add to cart without an in-stock badge is on backorder from the supplier (ask us for the current lead time before you order), and a sold-out listing can be reserved by email.
