High frequency

A glass electrode filled with argon or neon gas carries a low-current, high-frequency charge that produces ozone at the skin surface. Used for acne-prone skin, post-extraction and scalp work. On the 14-in-1 (high-frequency wand) and the WD40 on the Facial Machines page (0.2 to 0.5 MHz HR handle).

Microcurrent

Two probes pass a current measured in microamps through facial muscles for a temporary lifted look and a brightening effect; the "non-surgical facelift" add-on. On the 7-in-1 Hydro Facial and Plasma (microcurrent probe) and the 8-in-1 Hydro Dermabrasion and Skin Analysis.

Oxygen spray and oxygen infusion

A pressurized mist of serum or oxygenated water, used as a hydration finish after exfoliation. Oxygen sprayer on the 7-in-1 HydroSpa, oxygen spray gun on the 14-in-1, oxygen bubble and water-oxygen handles on the 8-in-1.

Ultrasonic and ultrasound

A flat ultrasonic inducer vibrates to help serums spread and settle; a skin scrubber uses the same vibration with a spatula edge to lift debris. The 14-in-1 adds a dedicated eye ultrasound attachment. Ultrasonic cavitation on the two 9-in-1 systems is the body version at a lower frequency.

Galvanic and ion

Direct current drives water-based product into the skin (iontophoresis) or draws out impurities (desincrustation). The 7-in-1 Hydro Facial and Plasma includes an ionic spray pen; the 14-in-1 includes a detox pen.

Radio frequency

Bipolar or tripolar RF warms the dermis for a firming effect. Bipolar RF handles on the 7-in-1 Hydro Facial and Plasma, 8-in-1 Skin Analysis and both 9-in-1 systems; a tripolar RF wand on the 14-in-1; three probe sizes on the ML600.

Plasma

Hot and cold fusion plasma, jet plasma and flake plasma tips on the 8-in-1 Hot and Cold Fusion system; a plasma probe on the 7-in-1 Hydro Facial and Plasma. Covered in detail on the Plasma Facial Machines page.

LED, hot and cold hammer, skin analysis

LED masks (7 colors on the 7-in-1 Hydro Facial and Plasma) and photon heads for post-treatment calming; cold hammers to close pores and reduce redness; a 2 megapixel skin analysis lens on the 8-in-1 for consultations.

Start from the three facials you will book most. A hydrating facial needs hydrodermabrasion and an oxygen finish (any of the hydro systems). An acne menu adds high frequency and LED (14-in-1). A lifting menu adds microcurrent and RF (7-in-1 Hydro Facial and Plasma, 8-in-1 Skin Analysis). A resurfacing menu adds plasma or microneedling (8-in-1 Hot and Cold Plasma, 14-in-1), which also pulls in state licensing questions.

Buy the console whose standard handles cover those three services. Extra modes you will not book are weight on the cart and money on the invoice. If two rooms are in the plan, two 7-in-1 systems usually beat one 14-in-1, because the carts can run at the same time.

Licensing by mode

Hydrodermabrasion, oxygen, ultrasonic, galvanic, high frequency and LED are esthetician-scope services in most states. Microcurrent usually is. RF, plasma and microneedling are regulated differently by state and may need medical oversight; check your board for each.
